Faux Friday & A Bowl 'O' Beads

Today's faux offering is a tutorial from Lynda Moseley of DivaDesignsInc. I have been having so much fun with this tutorial that I've barely come up for air.  Since I have a bead show that I am trying to prepare for I need all the help I can get. Once I got started on this tutorial I couldn't stop - I was making faux turquoise morning, noon and night.
What's so great about it (aside from Lynda's great knack for instruction) is that you don't have very much waste clay, especially when you make it look like a mosaic setting because it allows you to use up all those tiny bits. I am such a nut for the rustic look and even though Lynda is known for her excellent polished finishes you can adapt this to whatever look suits you personally. I even changed some of them to have a granite or stone appearance.
Now I have this huge bowl of beads that need to be priced and strung, then packed away for the upcoming show. I will be listing some of them on etsy, so you can either buy Lynda's tute and make them yourself or if you are impatient check and see what ones I will be selling at my store!

If you click on the link above- Diva Designs it will take you right to Lynda's etsy site and you will find the tutorial there. I used here tutorial because it is the best one I have seen so far for faux turquoise.

Diane, Thank you for visiting! Lynda sells her tutorials on Etsy. If you go there type DivaDesignsInc in the search bar and it will come up under 'shops'. If you are still having trouble send me your email and I will get in touch with Lynda and she can contact you if you wish. She is a great teacher and all around great personality, you'll learn a lot from her.

I would certainly buy the tutorial, but....those shown in the tutorial don't really appeal to me as much as your beads. Can't you do your own tut for these beads and credit her for learning the technique please

Thank you Chrissy for the kind complement. However, since I used Lynda's tutorial it would be a copyright violation to do so. All I can tell you is that Lynda is extremely talented and does absolutely perfect beads. I am not and my beads are a bit wonky, the colors are not always true and I have no real consistency. Now perhaps if you are a novice and you use Lynda's tutorial your beads will also be wonky, and inconsistent-in other words just like my beads! The best thing I can tell you is to try her tutorial and just play with it. She shows you the techniques and it is up to us as craftsperson to provide the individuality. That's what I did; I didn't have some of the colors she recommended so I subbed in others. I also used the veneer she shows and applied it to many different forms. That is what art is about sometimes. I highly urge you to get her tut and then let me know what you think.

Hello, everyone! Kathy, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your wonky beads. As you have demonstrated superbly, you do not have to be a sanding and buffing fanatic like me to create breathtakingly beautiful faux turquoise. In fact, I would say the majority of my customers who have purchased the tutorial do not sand and buff their surfaces. What I have heard over and over again since publishing the tutorial is that it is helped them push the envelope beyond the basic instructions, so you can take it in many different directions. That's what I hoped it would be, a launching pad for your own ideas. I have been amazed at the applications my customers have tried. I take my customers' satisfaction with my tutorials very seriously and am always available to help if you have questions.

I can see what Lynda does is perfect, but as you said work we do are completely different and even if you want to do exactly the same it's impossible. And I don't have the money to purchase the tutorials though I wish I had. Linda's work is awesome! I'm from Argentina and living here is very difficult.
Congratulations Lynda for yor lovely work!!!
